Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program

Program Applies in North York

The program offers a subsidy of up to $3,400 per property for the installation of flood protection systems for residential properties such as single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes in North York and the broader City of Toronto.

Eligible installations include:

Sump pump (including pit) – up to $1,750
Backwater (backflow) valve – up to $1,250
Weeping tile (foundation drain) severance and capping – up to $400

How It Works

Hire a licensed contractor (e.g., a City of Toronto-licensed plumber or renovator with proper license such as T94, T92, T87, or T85).
Install the eligible devices, following manufacturer guidance and municipal requirements.
Request and complete a City inspection, if required.
Submit your subsidy application with detailed receipts, invoices, permit documentation, and proof of payment—all within the required timeframe (usually within a year of completion).
